DuPont Molykote (Formerly Dow Corning) High-Vacuum Grease

DuPont Molykote (formerly Dow) High-Vacuum Grease is a one component, non-melting silicone oil that is used for sealing and lubricating O-rings, chemical processing equipment, control valves, water treating equipment, pressure systems, plug valves, and high temperature applications. It is a stiff compound with low volatility, and resists chemicals, water, mineral oils, common gases, and organic compounds.

 

Key Properties

NLGI Grade 3-4, translucent white, used primarily in sealing vacuum and pressure systems.

 

Applications

Lubrication for control and pressure plug valves, water softener and faucet valves; Sealant for vacuum and pressure systems; Sealant for outdoor equipment (also shipboard) subject to washing and harsh environmental exposure: meters, electrical service entrance and underground connections; Chemical barrier coating; Rubber and plastic O-rings, gaskets, and seals.

Performance Data

Solubility

MOLYKOTE® High-Vacuum Grease is insoluble in water, methanol, ethanol, acetone, glycol and glycerine. It can be dispersed in kerosene, Stoddard solvent, benzene, toluene, ethyl ether or petroleum ether.

 

Chemical Resistance

MOLYKOTE® High-Vacuum Grease is unaffected by most vegetable and minerals oils, many organic compounds, and most common gases. It is also resistant to most aqueous solutions of inorganic salts and to dilute acids and alkalies. The suitability of MOLYKOTE® High-Vacuum Grease should always be tested before the material is adopted for regular use.
